Joined Up Writers comprise members of a community writing group in South Cornwall and contributors from their local area, the Parish of Mylor. They met regularly in venues in Flushing, Mylor Bridge and the surrounding area between autumn 2018 and spring 2021. At various times they met in Cafe Mylor at Mylor Harbour, in the neighbouring churchyard of St Mylor, Flushing Sailing Club, in Mylor’s community garden, at Tremayne Hall, the Lemon Arms pub, the Pandora Inn, the Ord-Statter Pavilion, around kitchen tables, in gardens, in an orchard, and on benches beside the harbour.
The Joined Up Writers include: Virginia Barker, Julia Byrne, Joanna Garton, Jane Goldsworthy, Annie Huxley, Sue Rees and Celia Savage. Many others including Jaye Brighton, Kim Brown, Barbara Henry, Jayne Howard, Isabel Wright, and those who wish to be anonymous, contributed at various stages.
Their story is entirely made up, but it sprang from ideas, experiences and observations shared about their community. We have been helped by Melanie Franks, Editor of The Magazine, Sian Gaston and the Mylor Community Garden, members of the Mylor Mermaids WI, Jan Robson and the Tremayne Hall art group, Rev Jeffrey James of St Mylor Church, Mandy Thompson at the Carclew Estate, members of the Mylor Local History Archive, and volunteers with the Neighbourhood Development Plan for Mylor Parish. All of these have provided insight into the issues and challenges faced by a community such as Trevow.
Thank you to everyone who has taken part. Read more about how the community novel was created.
